Concha: the pilgrim dog

Updated: Jan 16

Several people have reached out to us recently to tell us about a group of monks who are walking for peace - with their dog Aloka - from Texas to Washington, D.C.

You can find them on all social media platforms under the name WALK FOR PEACE OFFICIAL.

Following their journey, hearing their conversations and seeing the many meaningful encounters brought back all the memories of our own 5000-km pilgrimage for peace from Rome to Jerusalem.

We shared the story of that pilgrimage in our book WALKING FOR PEACE, AN INNER JOURNEY.

In those 13 months of walking, there was a story every day. This was before the time of mobile phones and social media, so every story was written in our diaries first. Many of them didn’t make it into the final edition of the book, but deeply touched us.

Seeing the dog Aloka reminded me of one such story: a stray dog who crossed our path in Turkey, and who we called Concha.

This is her story. We hope you enjoy it.

Buen camino! 🙏🏽
